My dvd rom is not picking up files when i load dvd any help would be appreciated

I need a bit more information to help you
Which operating system are you running?
Is your computer a desktop or laptop?
Have you just downloaded and installed any new drivers or updates - especially any service packs from Microsoft (I hope you aren't running a Mac)

I am running windows xp i have bought a new dvd writer to use for now my computer is a desktop i have not downloaded any new drivers thanks for answering
