Do you use a modem or a router to connetc to the internet?

Have you added any new electrical equipment between your router and your computer?
A new metal item of furnture or storage (fridge, cooker, freezer, TV etc) can also interfere with the signal?
When you have 'lost' your connection, have you tried rebooting the router?
By rebooting I mean switching off the power for 30 seconds then switching the power back on. Does that restore the connection?

No - I don't mean switch the computer off - just the router itself leaving the computer on
Does that bring the connection back?

I am trying to work out if the problem is in your router or in your computer.
Have you got an ethernet cable to connect your computer and your router instead of using WiFi?

Yes that's right - use it to connect your router to your computer
If that doesn't improve things it eliminates any problems with WiFi
Do you live on an estate with a lot of other houses?

I am asking that because if you live near a lot of other people who are likely to be on the internet at the same time as you it slows down your connection till it stops
We have that problem every evening at about 3 to 5 pm when the kids come home from school
Once it gets to tea time things speed up a bit again
